Eye Problems in Dogs - A dogs eyes are an important sensory tool which are vital for its good health and wellbeing.

There are three main parts to the dogs eye; the outer layer, the middle layer; and the inner layer. The eye is a very complicated organ, and dog owners should be vigilant and report any suspected eye problems to your vet. Failure to take such action can result in the loss of an eye or even blindness.

Some eye conditions are hereditary in dogs, and some breeds are more susceptible than others. Pedigree dogs are more prone to eye problems than mongrels, and if you are thinking of buying a puppy, you should check with the breeders to see that the parents have been screened for hereditary eye problems.

Specialist veterinary expertise may be required to diagnose and cure certain eye conditions.
