Female Cat Problems - The female cat, whilst being susceptible to all the general conditions and infections common to all cats, is also affected by infections of her reproductive system and the particular problems of giving birth to and weaning kittens.

Female cats attain puberty usually between six to nine months, but are sexually inactive during the winter. The period when she is sexually active is usually between three to five days a month in the summer.

For female cats additional health problems can occur during pregnancy, during birth and in weaning their kittens. This area of our website considers some of the more common conditions that can affect female cats in particular, including eclampsia, mastitis, breast cancer, hyperplasia, pseudo pregnancy and infections of the reproductive system.
